Everything You Need to Know: Gem Pack Vol 5 News

The high energy and electrifying Rising Volt Tacklers have sailed back into the Gem Pack Series. They will officially feature as the main theme for Gem Pack Vol. 5. Gem Pack Vol. 1 featured the Pokémon Horizons characters along with their Pokémon in their first evolution line. For Gem Pack Vol 5, we will see the trainers and their Pokémon in their secondary evolution line. One may assume that we’ll see a final evolution in a future Gem Pack too…

Fun Facts: Their name is derived from the signature Electric-type move used by Pikachu (Volt Tackle) and seeing that the group’s mascot and second-in-command is Captain Pikachu… well, we don’t really need to explain the rest if that right?! Anyway, Rising comes from the flying airship they use to get around. But it’s ‘Tacklers…’ Correct you are. The group is always tackling difficult problems and challenges head-on. So now you know.

Extra Fun Fact: The airship’s name is the Brave Olivine.

Additional Fun Fact: Brave Olivine is Brave (see above section about tackling problems and challenges). Olivine is a coastal port city known for the ocean, trade, travel, and a famous lighthouse. Now, if you put all that in a pot and let it simmer, you end up with: a courageous vessel of exploration, inspired by a place associated with perilous journeys, difficult navigation, and a cool lighthouse? Well, it made sense before it was all written out.

Bonus Additional Fun Fact: Electricity is dangerous. So, Pikachu (while cute and cuddly) needs to be treated with care.

Revealed Cards

Unlike Gem Pack Vol. 4 (that had only ONE exclusive card), Gem Pack Vol. 5 will feature four Simplified Chinese exclusive cards. All four cards will include the Pokémon Horizons Stamp on the card (same as Gem Pack Vol. 1 did), and who doesn’t love a stamp?

These will be great additions to the binder for anyone that collects cards of Pokémon eating food (we know we’re not alone in this collection piece). Or is it cards of food being eaten by Pokémon – a mystery for the ages that one!

There is a little mixed opinion when it comes to Captain Pikachu, due to the artworks being so similar… We consider it an upgrade for Friede and Captain Pikachu, but lowkey hoping the third feature will Friede’s Charizard 👀 That captain’s hat sure looks good on our little yellow buddy.

The Booster Pack Pull rates have confirmed there will be a total of 28 Pokémon illustrations (just like Gem Pack Vol. 4). Only six other illustrations have been revealed so far.

Interestingly, the Growlithe had previously been released alongside Perrin in both English and Japanese, due to the connecting artworks. The Perrin card has been released in Bright Fantasy (CSV8C), so we’ve been eagerly awaiting to see which set would feature the Growlithe.

A Deeper Dive into the Artists of the Exclusive Cards

First up would have to be Captain Pikachu illustrated by Keita Hagiwara. Keita Hagiwara is an actual key animator for the Pokémon TV anime (including Pokémon Horizons: The Series). We also couldn’t find any previous Pokémon TCG cards done by him, which means this would be his debut into the Pokémon TCG artist scene.

Liko and Floragato have been illustrated by Lyu YiFei. A small occurring theme here… Lyu YiFei has also been a key animator for the Pokémon Horizons: The Series (and DAN DA DAN…) and we were also unable to find any previous Pokémon TCG cards illustrated by her before. However, she has been credited as one of the artists from a pool of artists who have worked on Pokémon TCG cards

Crocalor and Roy have been illustrated by Kouki Yanagihara. You guessed it, has also worked as a key animator for the Pokémon Horizons: The Series as well as previous Pokémon TV anime and has no other previous artworks for the Pokémon TCG.

Last but certainly not least is Dot and Quaxwell illustrated by Yamazaki Rei. Rei has worked as one of the chief animation directors for Pokémon Horizons: The Series as well as worked as the key animator for the previous Pokémon TV anime.

She has also illustrated the Pokémon 30th anniversary picture featuring Liko, Roy, Dot and Ult.

Unliked the other three artists, Yamazaki Rei is no stranger as an artist to the Pokémon TCG. In fact, she has illustrated Captain Pikachu as well as Dot and Quaxly from Gem Pack Vol. 1

Everything You Need To Know: Original Partner Card Set Vol 1

And now for something completely different. Well… Technically, it’s still words and letters – but they’ve been arranged a little differently and are saying different things. Jump in and let us know what you think! Or don’t, that’s what’s so great about anonymous Internet engagements.

The Original Partner Card Set Vol 1 is set for release by Pokémon China on March 20, 2026. There are a total of 9 different designs featuring Kanto starters, Sinnoh Region starters and the Alola Region starters. This set has been named: Vol 1, and it goes without saying (even though we will), there will mostly likely be numerous products of this line throughout the year! We wanted to take a deeper dive of the illustrations by Saboteri* to identify all the hidden easter eggs (as best, and as accurate as we can).

Each of the three regions have connecting artworks which showcase landmarks and items you would recognise while playing their respective games. *Saboteri is a Pokémon fan artist known for clean, expressive character designs and soft, stylized illustrations that give familiar Pokémon a playful, polished look.

Kanto Starters

Set in the Kanto Region, we have the original trio – Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. Each of the cards have a strong colour palette of Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. We’re taking a leap here and assuming that this links directly to the Pokémon Gameboy releases of Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow.

Collector’s Tip: Pokémon Green was only released in Japan.

Let’s take a look at those cards now…

Bulbasaur (001/30th-P)

It’s only fitting we start off at the bottom right at Red’s House in Pallet Town. That’s your starting point in the game and where you get the classic mom send-off chat, and later the Running Shoes after your first rival encounter.

To the left of the card, sits Professor Oak’s Lab, marked by the Pokédex icon. This is where the journey properly begins: three Poké Balls on display for the starter choice, namely Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle, and of course the Pokédex handed over to kick off the whole “Catch ‘Em All” goal.

Who knew back then that this was all going to impact so many lives?

Route 1 (above Red’s House) is just above Pallet Town and is the first real grinding spot of the game. You’ll get sick of Rattata and Pidgey’s here (why is it always rats or crabs at the start of games)?!

Viridian Forest takes over the top left side of the card. That’s the dense woods where you could possibly find that rare Pikachu.

The Boulder Badge (left side) is in Pewter City, where you challenge the Rock-type Gym leader, Brock.

The Cascade Badge appears in the middle top, which you receive after battling Misty in her water-type gym located in Cerulean City.

Collector’s Tip: In Pokémon Yellow, there is a house in Cerulean City where a girl named Melanie will give you a Bulbasaur if your friendship with Pikachu is high enough!

Mt. Moon crowns the top right section, which is the big cave network where you have a high chance of catching a Zubat and a small chance of catching a Clefairy. The Thunder Badge (right side) is given after defeating Lt. Surge in Vermillion City.

Charmander (002/30th-P)

Route 12 anchors the bottom of the card. That’s the endless bridge south of Lavender Town, crammed with fishermen begging for battles. Snorlax snoozes right at the north end, blocking everything until you obtain the Poké Flute.

Soul Badge sits to the left. You acquire it from Koga’s poison-type gym in Fuchsia City, after surfing east from that very bridge.

Pokémon Tower rises on the right in Lavender Town. Seven floors of ghostly battles—Gastly and Haunter go invisible without the Silph Scope but rescue Mr. Fuji at the top and he hands over the Poké Flute to wake that big snoozer Snorlax (Huzzah!)

Rainbow Badge pops up top right. Erika’s grass-types in Celadon City, smack next to the giant department store for all your shopping needs.

Indigo Plateau looms at the top left. The massive Pokémon League entrance you storm after all eight badges and grinding through Victory Road’s boulder mazes.

Collector’s Tip: Not card related at all, but more of a fun fact for Pokémon Yellow. It is the only game out of the four (Red, Blue, Green & Yellow) that you can travel with Pikachu outside the ball throughout the game. Which means you can reenact some scenes from the actual anime!

Squirtle (003/30th-P)

S.S. Anne sits pretty at the top left—that swanky cruise ship docked in Vermilion Harbor. Personally, we loved it when boarding that ship, as it meant we could finally start chopping down trees with the HM01 Cut after helping the queasy Captain!

Volcano Badge heats things up to the left side of the card. You’ll receive this badge after battling it out with Blaine inside Cinnabar Island’s crater. Blaine’s Pokémon lineup is a definite favourite as it features Tamara’s favourite-fire-babies.

Seafoam Islands claim the bottom left side. That’s the pair of watery caves east of Cinnabar where you push boulders with Strength to drain the currents and catch legendary Articuno deep inside.

Silph Co. fills the top right in Saffron City. It is one of the longest indoor areas in the game but is worth the time as you get that Master Ball once you defeat Giovanni!

Earth Badge digs in the top-right of the card. Giovanni is the Gym Leader for Viridian City and is the 8th and final gym leader.

Cycling Road and Route 17 cruise through the middle of the card. That epic bike downhill from Celadon—snag your Bicycle prize, evade biker gangs, and rocket to Fuchsia at warp speed. Nostalgia hits big time for us here.

Marsh Badge hangs bottom-centre. Obtain it by defeating Sabrina in her psychic-type gym in Saffron City. This would definitely be Quinton’s favourite Gym Leaders Pokémon line up.

Collector’s Tip: Right after that Thunder Badge in Vermilion (S.S. Anne gateway), pop into the house east of the Pokémon Center—Officer Jenny gifts a Lv. 5 Squirtle in Pokémon Yellow!

Sinnoh Starters

A clear colour palette of blue and purple to mirror Pokemon Diamond & Pearl. You will also note that some landmarks in the card are also upside down, which we think is a nod to Pokemon Platinum and the Distortion World!

Collectors Tip: The Distortion World has no music at first… For a while, there’s just ambient noise. That was intentional to make players uncomfortable and disoriented.

Turtwig (010/30th-P)

Starting us off, at the top right of the card is the Jubilife TV Building. Notably it is upside down… This is one of the first big hubs you reach after leaving Twinleaf Town, and where the game really starts to feel like a proper adventure rather than a small-town stroll.

Just to the left (or right) of that sits the Old Chateau in Eterna Forest. This eerie, abandoned mansion is famous for its ghostly encounters and one of the creepiest optional areas in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. If you ever walked through those rooms slowly expecting something to jump out… you weren’t alone. We still have trouble going to the bathroom at night!

To the top left sits Valley Windworks, Sinnoh’s wind-powered electric plant fuelling Floaroma Town—site of your first indoor Team Galactic raid, plus exclusive Friday-only Drifloon spawns outside from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.

The Coal Badge peeking out from Turtwig, is earned after defeating Roark in Oreburgh City’s Rock-type Gym. This is typically the first badge most players collect in Sinnoh.

Professor Rowan’s Briefcase sits towards the bottom left. This is a fantastic nod to the very start of the game on Route 201, where you and your rival inspect the briefcase and choose your starter Pokémon after being attacked by a wild Starly.

At the bottom of the card is Sandgem Town, home to Professor Rowan’s Lab. This is where you officially receive your Pokédex and where your Sinnoh journey properly begins after you leave Twinleaf Town.

On the right side, the Forest Badge is shown. This is awarded after defeating Gardenia in Eterna City’s Grass-type Gym.

Next to it is the Skull Fossil, one of the two fossils you can uncover in the Sinnoh Underground. The Skull Fossil revives into Cranidos, exclusive to Pokémon Diamond.

Finally, the Armour Fossil sits at the bottom right. This fossil revives into Shieldon and is exclusive to Pokémon Pearl.

Collector’s Tip: If you dug up both fossils in the Underground with friends via local wireless, you could actually obtain both Cranidos and Shieldon in a single game — something not possible through solo play alone.

Chimchar (011/30th-P)

We’ll start off with the new feature added with Sinnoh region. The Pokétch– the dual-screen watch you receive in Jubilife City. Which lets you flip between apps like the calculator, friendship checker, daycare tracker, and of course, the Underground map.

Next to it is the Relic Badge from Gym Leader Fantina in Hearthome City.

Over to the left, sits the Mine Badge, awarded after defeating Byron in Canalave City’s Steel- type Gym.

Just under them is Mt. Coronet. This enormous mountain range splits Sinnoh in half and acts as a constant obstacle throughout the entire game, with multiple entrances, caves, and story events tied to it.

Just under the mountain is the Cobble Badge which is obtained after defeating Maylene’s fighting-type gym in Veilstone City.

Snowpoint Temple is shown to the top right. This ancient structure is where you encounter the legendary Regigigas after transferring in Regirock, Regice, and Registeel from previous games. It’s one of the more mysterious and easily missed post-game locations in Sinnoh.

To the right of the card are the Spear Pillars at the summit of Mt. Coronet. This is the dramatic climax of Diamond and Pearl where Team Galactic summon Dialga or Palkia, and in Platinum, where the Distortion World sequence begins.

At the bottom left is Oreburgh Mine, where you first meet Roark before challenging his gym. The pickaxe, hammer and spheres are referencing the mining minigame!

On the right side sits Bebe’s House and the Contest Hall in Hearthome City. Bebe is the creator of the PC Storage System in Sinnoh, taking over from Bill, and the Contest Hall is where players would spend hours making Poffins** and entering Super Contests.

Speaking of which — Poffins are shown at the bottom of the card. These were made by mixing berries in Amity Square or the Contest Hall to boost your Pokémon’s condition stats for contests. A feature unique to Sinnoh which we’ve been told – a lot of players sunk a lot of hours into (clearly it didn’t grab either of our attention 👀).

Collector’s Tip: If you spoke to Bebe in Hearthome City with an empty party slot, she would gift you an Eevee — the only way to obtain one in Diamond and Pearl without trading. ** For those of you more skilled in the kitchen there are real life recipes for Poffins.

Piplup (012/30th-P)

One of the first things we spotted on this card is the random Croagunk statue on the top left. In Diamond & Pearl you can find this statue in the Pastoria Pokémon Center. If you interact with it, the game notes that “even though it’s made of wood, it still seems like it’s seeping poison…”

Collector’s Tip: There’s also a small in-game Easter egg in Pokémon Platinum where, if you interact with the Croagunk image on a billboard or signboard in Pastoria and stand in a specific spot (like behind the “Croagunk face board”), a wild Croagunk will walk by and disappear into the Great Marsh.

Slightly below that, the Icicle Badge hovers. This badge is from Snowpoint City’s gym, led by Candice.

Then below that, sits the upside-down Spear Pillars — same as featured on the Chimchar card.

The Fen Badge sits just below — earned from Pastoria City’s Gym under Crasher Wake.

The Vista Lighthouse and part of Sunnyshore City is showcased on the Horizon. In the games, you are able to view the Peakmon League from this location, and funnily enough, the Pokémon league is at the top right of this card…

Once you’ve collected all 8 badges, it’s off to the Pokémon League you go! This is your destination to battle the Elite Four and Champion.

Last but certainly not least, we have Team Galactic’s HQ on the bottom right side. Which is located in Veilstone City.

Collector’s Tip: Despite being an evil team, they have a dedicated “Nap Room” with beds that allow the player to fully heal their party – which we can totally appreciate!

Alola Starters

Brace yourselves for aloha vibes! We’re island-hopping to Alola with Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio. These cards embrace a tropical rainbow colour palette, with sun-kissed oranges and sandy yellows in Heahea City, scorching reds and resort pinks at Hano Grand, and oceanic blues with mystical purples at Seafolk Village—mirroring Pokémon Sun and Moon’s day-night duality and endless summer paradise.

Collector’s Tip: In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Island Scan lets you catch the other two Alola starters wild.

Rowlett (019/30th-P)

Hau’oli City bursts onto the scene as Melemele Island’s lively beachfront hub — your first real taste of Alola after picking your starter from Professor Kukui on Route 1.

Top-left we have the dome-shaped Pokémon Center which is integrated with the Poké Mart and cafe. An exclusive to Sun & Moon.

Above it, floats Electrium Z, the sparkling Electric-type Z-Crystal you earn from Sophocles’ trial at Hokulani Observatory.

Top-right of the card is the Rotom Dex — the sassy, shape-shifting Pokédex Kukui gifts you in Heahea City that becomes your trial guide, map, and resident comedian.

Collector’s Tip: In Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, it gets a “Serious Mode” after certain story events and ditches the jokes.

On the far right stands Professor Kukui’s House, the laid-back beach shack in Hau’oli

Outskirts where the Prof lives, eats Poké Beans, and drops major story hints throughout the journey.

Bottom-centre sails Professor Kukui’s Sailboat, the Machamp-powered vessel that opens up fast travel to the other islands once you’ve cleared the grand trials.

Hanging just below Rowlett is the Island Challenge Amulet — Hala’s gift after your Iki Town battle with him.

Scattered across the card is the early-game Z-Crystal lineup:

Rockium Z bottom-right (Olivia’s Akala grand trial reward)
Normalium Z right side (Ilima’s totem battle prize in Verdant Cavern)
Psychium Z bottom-left (Acerola’s ghostly Ula’ula trial crystal)
Poisonium Z bottom edge (earned after beating Plumeria’s squad at Aether Paradise)

Collector’s Tip: Rowlet gets so comfy in tight, dark spots that it nests right inside its Trainer’s bag or jacket pocket—the ultimate literal “Pocket Monster”!

Litten (020/30th-P)

Our first stop is on the top left side – the Battle Royal Dome located on Battle Avenue. Here, trainers are able to battle it out in a 1v1v1v1 format.

Next door sits Kiawe’s House, based in Paniola Town.

The left side charges in the Poké Ride Tauros, your speedy bull mount.

Top-right features the Hano Grand Resort with its luxury pools. Fun fact; the name originates from the word Hanohano in Hawaiian which means glorious, magnificent, or grand.

Peeking out of the palm leaf is the Pokémon League, home to the Elite 4. Unlike the other regions, the Elite 4 is not made up of Gym Leaders, but instead composed of Kahunas and specialized trainers.

Shady House of Po Town lurks mid-right, Skull Gang’s graffiti-covered Ula’ula hideout.

Just in front is the Beast Ball, essential for snagging Ultra Beasts from wormholes.

Bottom-centre floats Aether Paradise, where the Beats Balls and the Pokémon Type: Null was created. It is definitely Pokémon’s most polite-looking villain lair.

Collector’s Tip: The Ultra Beast codename numbers (UB-01, UB-02, etc.) are scientific specimen labels, not Pokédex numbers.

Swirling in the bottom-left corner is the Ultra Wormhole, the glowing interdimensional gateway that rips open across Alola — unleashing Ultra Beasts and letting you hunt for legendary Pokémon like Buzzwole, Pheromosa, Kartana, Celesteela, Guzzlord, and more in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Z-Crystal showcase lights up the card:

Waterium Z left (Lana’s Brooklet Hill trial reward)
Firium Z near Litten (Kiawe’s blazing Akala grand trial prize)
Steelium Z top-right (Molayne’s Hokulani steel trial crystal)

Grassium Z far-right (Mallow’s Lush Jungle grass haul)

Collector’s Tip: Litten torches its own body twice a year to burn off old fur and regrow its coat.

Popplio (021/30th-P)

Seafolk Village dives in bottom-left as Ula’ula Island’s quirky spot. It’s inspired by the real- world Bajau sea nomads of Southeast Asia who live their whole lives on boats.

Top-left towers the Altar of the Sunne, that ancient Exeggutor-guarded ruin on Poni Island’s

Vast Poni Canyon — key to summoning legendary Solgaleo in Sun (or Lunala in Moon) after collecting both Sun and Moon Flutes.

Right beside it is the Sun & Moon Flute, the golden duo you assemble from island trials.

Nearby sparkles Ghostium Z, Acerola’s spooky trial reward from the abandoned Thrifty Megamart.

The right-side of the card is a Z-Crystal frenzy: Dragonium Z (Hau’s dragon-powered Melemele grand trial prize), Icium Z (not obtainable in base games — Ultra Sun/Moon exclusive via Battle Royal or trading), Z-Ring (Kukui’s wristband essential for channeling Z-

Moves), Fairium Z (Hapu’s Poni fairy grand trial crystal), Darkinium Z (Guzma’s dark boss battle drop at Po Town), and Groundium Z (Olivia’s Akala rock trial upgrade).

Bottom-left near the village sits Bugium Z, Sophocles’ bug zap from his Hokulani Observatory trial.

Bottom-right stretches Route 7, the coastal path that connects Royal Avenue, Wela Volcano Park and Route 8 together.

Collector’s Tip: A fan-favourite theory is that Popplio perfectly mimics the alchemical symbol for mercury while standing tall with head up (water’s element)—a sneaky design trio with Litten’s sulfur (fire) forehead and Rowlet’s salt (earth) wings!

We’re personally very excited to add these 9 cards to our personal collection, as well as the cards in the future volumes! A big shoutout to the illustrator – Saboteri, who takes you on a journey through each of the regions.

It’s not a simple task capturing the feelings and emotions from these adventures in a single image, but we feel this is a close as you’re going to get. Right, time to dust of that old Gameboy, where did we put it…

Everything You Need to Know: Bright Fantasy

The breathtaking Milotic has splashed in and will feature as the mascot of Bright Fantasy.

Now some say that this Pokémon is the most beautiful of all the Pokémon. Now we know everyone has their favourites, but we just can’t see Milotic beating our long-time BAE: Bruxish*. Just take a long look at those well-matched and subtle colours and who doesn’t get lost in those big, luscious eyes! We’ll take your votes below.

Typical to all Simplified Chinese sets, the name of the set is open for interpretation, so you may also know it as “Brilliant Fantasy” or even “Brilliant Illusion.” Sorry for the confusion folks 😉

Bright Fantasy will include cards from Surging Sparks, Shrouded Fable, Stellar Crown and Twilight Masquerade. Based on the cards revealed, this set will be celebrating Pokémon from Kitakami Village, which is a location featured in the “Teal Mask” expansion of the Scarlet & Violet Switch game.

Did you know: Kitakami Village

It’s inspired by rural Japan and heavily based on traditional Japanese countryside towns. The architecture, lanterns and rice fields give it a different feel from Paldea (the open-world region featured in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet)
The village revolved around the Festival of Masks, celebrating the legendary Loyal Three and Ogerpon. The mask tie into the region’s myths and lore.
It’s casually misidentified. Most players call the area Kitakami Village, but the main settlement you explore is Mossui Town, the heart of the region.

55 total cards have been revealed (we will have the full set list up a week prior to launch as that is when the card list is then unveiled). Let’s have a look at the origins of these cards.

Twilight Masquerade made up 61.8% of the revealed cards, Shrouded Fable has 21.8%, Surging Sparks has 12.7% and Stellar Crown has 3.7% of the revealed cards.

Collector’s Tip: This will be the first Ponyta illustration rare.

MINAMINAMI Take is the official illustrator of the Ponyta. You may recognise the style from their previous illustrations such as the Charmander and Detective Pikachu cards. This is very exciting as MINAMINAMI Take’s subject art is expressive and character focused with clean, detailed execution. One element that shines through (LOL) is the thoughtful use of light, atmosphere, and adaptability across different Pokémon subjects (in particular the Charmander artwork). This makes the cards feel playful, polished, and unique.

All 28 illustrations have finally been revealed. This will be the largest showcase of Pokémon in the Gem Pack series up to date. Majority of the cards come from Twilight Masquerade and Temporal Forces, with three outliers. The Ponyta (not the AR) is from Destined Rivals, the Paldean Wooper (not AR) is from Journey Together and the Paldean Wooper AR is from Phantasmal Flames (this is the first card from the MEGA era in a Simplified Chinese set).

Blade Awakening will feature fan favourite frog-like Pokémon, Tera Greninja! Releasing 16 January 2026, this will be the first set of the year and a continuation of the Scarlet & Violet era. This set will still feature both “ancient” and “future” Pokémon, as well as the introduction of ACE SPEC cards (which doesn’t matter much for us Westerners, unless you’re a fan of bright pink cards!).

Educational moment: The Term Tera Greninja refers to a variant of Greninja that appears in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet due to the Terastallization mechanic (say that 3 times in a row). This mechanic is a feature in the game that allows Pokémon to change their type temporarily during battle by—wait for it—crystallizing into a unique form based on their Tera Type. Phew, bet you didn’t know you were in for a science lesson today. 😊

Gather closer and listen. We’ve been gathering all the information on the last Collect 151 set. For those at the back of the class (or those that are new), this is the final set 4 of 4 of the Collect 151 series. It all began one sunny day (17 January), when the first of this collection was release, and now here we are gathered for the end.

Okay, we’ll stop.

It’s been a wild ride, and it seems that what Pikachu started will be ended by more of them. But hang on! Some of you (okay one or two) are thinking… How can there be more than one Pikachu?!

Well listen up. There are those people out there who think that Ash’s Pikachu is the only Pikachu, but Pikachu is really the species name – not the name of a single individual, and there are plenty of them. The more you know hey.

We knew this of course, and if you didn’t, now you do. 😊 But you did right? Right!?

Chase Cards

Who doesn’t love a gathering (or a spark?) of Pikachu designed by Oswaldo KATO. Once again, Collect 151 will feature ONE of the Pikachu AR’s. Not all four, which is the common misconception, and not as a promo card either. It is the only AR to chase in this set. We think this is going to be the one to chase, perhaps even for this whole Collect 151 collection. It’s Pikachu after all! Just look at those cute cheeks.

Collector’s Tip: when dealing with this amount of Pikachu it’s important to follow these safety tips:

Keep your distance during a Thunderbolt

Even the friendliest Pikachu can unleash thousands of volts when startled (or frustrated). Stay a few meters back until those cute little cheeks stop sparking. Oh, and hide your bike. 😉

Never touch live wires (or Pikachu’s tail when it’s charged)

Electricity travels fast and unpredictably. If you see a glow, hum, or sparks, back away and wait for the charge to dissipate.

Stay dry and grounded

Water conducts electricity. If Pikachu is practicing Thunder Shock, make sure your shoes have rubber soles and you’re not standing in a puddle.

Use proper insulation

Electricians use rubber gloves. Pokémon trainers should follow this practice when working near live Pikachu. Remember never surprise, scare or annoy a Pikachu.

Know the signs of overcharge

If Pikachu’s tail flickers rapidly, its fur stands on end, and its cheeks crackle, that’s a warning! Step back (we’d run), take a breath, and let the charge discharge safely.

Other Bonus Chase

For the second time in this series we do get spoiled with an SAR (unlike Journey and Hope which only featured 1 AR as the chase card). The only SAR featured in this set is the Zapdos EX which you all would be familiar with, from the original 151 set (both English and Japanese).

A little side note about Jumbo boxes: there is a chance of a GOD BOX. What does a “God Box” entail? It means all 6 packs will contain a “hit.” 5 of the packs will contain a SR rarity (and above), and 1 card will be a “shiny” Pokémon. Make sure you keep praying to the luck gods. Very few (even the biggest collectors) rarely get their hands on a god box.

Along with the release of Collect 151 Gathering, another two coin set boxes will be released the same day. The “Collect 151: Gathering Coin Box” and “Collect 151: Gathering Coin Box EX.” There will be a total of 139 variants for the Coin Box and 12 variants of the Coin Box EX.

Each Pokémon will also be available in 3 colours (red, yellow and brown to correspond with Fire, Electric and Fighting type), and there will be a chance for a “secret” version which is a lot more sparkly (yes! it’s a word).

This Gem Pack is channelling Mr. Fuji and starting the spooky season by showcasing Pokémon that like it dark and spooky – straight from the Greavard. Get it?

Earlier Gem Pack sets gave us 4 new Simplified Chinese exclusives per set. Gem Pack Vol 3 is spoiling us with FIVE. Biggest number yet.

That’s right, all the fingers on your hand. Unless you had an unfortunate onion chopping accident – if this is you, then just use all the toes on your foot. Unless you had an unfortunate pogo stick mishap – if this is you then just use… Well, just imagine you have five of a thing – it’s the same as that. ;)

Collector’s Tip: Try opening these packs at night. No proof it helps, but hey – worth a shot.

Gem Pack Vol 3 Hit Rates

No official confirmation yet. Based on Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, each box should guarantee at least 1× ★★★ rarity card, with lucky boxes holding 2×. We’ll know more as people crack them open.

Reverse Holos, Stamps, and Special Variants

Vol. 3 continues the pattern: foils, reverses, and multiple stamp types. Expect Poké Ball, Master Ball, Pokémon-type, glitter, prism, and the iconic Gem Pack stamp.

Everything you need to know about “Dark Crystal Blaze”

At the end of the 2025 Pokémon Hangzhou Masters event, Pokémon China revealed their latest upcoming set, featuring Charizard ex.

Fun fact: Charizard is a fire/flying-type and not a dragon-type. Looking at him you’d think dragon, but you’d be wrong. 😉 However, later in the series this all changes with Mega Evolution and Mega Charizard X gains the dragon-type. Also keep an eye on the flame at the tip of Charizard’s tail – it’s a life force symbol, and should it go out Charizard would be no more. Always an iconic favourite, Charizard’s legacy is an integral part of Pokémon culture.

Dark Crystal Blaze will release in Mainland China on: 12 September 2025.

Collectors Tip: Unlike Sword & Shield era, Jumbo packs have decreased the amount of cards from 25 cards to 20 cards. They also no longer guarantee a minimum of an “EX” card. Boo!

Box Designs

For those familiar with Simplified Chinese products, you will know the irony (or incongruity to be more precise) of a Slim Booster Box design vs. a Jumbo Booster Box design. Previously, Slim Booster Boxes were the chunkier boxes of the two, and the Jumbo Box, was well… the slimmer box (it was a case of the old switcheroo).

Pokémon China have finally moved away from that design concept, and both boxes will be the size of the standard Jumbo Booster box design. What does this mean exactly for Slim Box contents though? There is now a decrease in packs, from 24 packs down to only 15 packs per box. What have we learnt from all this? Well, we don’t know exactly – except that it always pays to visit the Pokipair site for the very freshest information.

More Exclusive Cards

At this point it just feels like we’re going to have exclusive cards every set release (no, we’re not complaining)!

This year alone (2025) we’re now up to 20 Simplified Chinese exclusive cards! Dark Crystal Blaze is no different and is spoiling us with two new exclusive cards. The “Defiance Band” has upgraded its status to the Golden UR, which is great for all the actual TCG players to blind out their deck.

Larry, who is a fan favourite trainer has (finally) gotten his own Special Art Rare (SAR). If you want to summon this rare pull, just serve up the following menu item: Grilled rice balls with extra crispy texture, medium serving of fire blast, lemon on the side, and normal seasoning. This little concoction is Larry’s favourite meal*, so while we can’t guarantee you’ll pull him, at least you’ll have something tasty to munch on. 😊

Card, Cards & More Cards

As you well know by now, Simplified Chinese are playing catch up to the rest of the languages. Thanks to this, they end up combining various sets together. In this set the magical mixture is a combination of Obsidian Flames (if the Tera Charizard wasn’t the biggest giveaway), Paradox Rift, Scarlet & Violet Base. Happy hunting and make sure you keep that flame lit.

The Stringy Cheese Man (Yes! We know it’s a stack of coins) is making his debut in “Reward Round”.

Yet another interesting name, but this one does make sense (if you think about it). According to Gholdengo’s card ability: Coin Bonus (what is it with coins this week)? In the simplest terms, the card allows you to draw an extra card every turn (like getting a Prize Card) – seems rather fitting.

Slim vs Jumbo Box

Since the days of Primordial Arts (ah, good ol’ Sword & Shield), we’ve had a tale of two booster box styles. Slim boxes were the extra kind—larger than Jumbo boxes (yes, really), stuffed in a plastic sleeve to cradle the booster packs like fine china. Retailers loved it; they could hang those packs up neat and pretty without worrying about damage. But for us pack rippers? It was a nightmare. Ever tried peeling apart one of those trays without looking like a wild animal? Yeah, not cute. And the plastic waste? Don’t get us started.

Jumbo boxes, on the other hand, kept it classic—no fuss, just good old-fashioned ripping. Then came Collect 151, and hope was restored. Both Slim and Jumbo boxes were the same size (gasp!), and we all thought maybe, just maybe, Pokémon had finally seen the light.

Fast forward to the Scarlet & Violet era, and… womp womp. Back to mismatched boxes. That is, until now. Reward Round is finally giving us what we wanted: Slim and Jumbo boxes that are the same size! No more weird plastic inserts. Just pure, uniform boxy bliss.
